Brad Riddell & Cam Steer Win At Sports Fight Night 2 |

The fighters from the Academy had another great night over the weekend with Brad Riddell winning his Thai boxing bout and Cam Steer winning his MMA fight. Cam won by rear naked choke in the first round and Brad delivered an extremely impressive knock out. Phil Loney also had a very good Thai boxing match, impressing the crowd with some spectacular throws, but conceded a very close decision. Scott Benson & Brad Riddell Win At Cage Warriors 3 |

The Academy had a great night at Cage Warriors 3 in Christchurch over the weekend, with Brad Riddell winning his Thai boxing fight and Scott Benson winning his MMA fight by submission. Both fighters put on excellent performances so be sure to keep an eye on our Gallery page for forthcoming videos. |

Cam Steer Wins At Christchurch Fight Sports Night |

A huge congratulations to Cam Steer who on Saturday won his 86kg Thai boxing fight at the Fight Sports Night at Cowles Stadium. The fight was extremely exciting with both fighters showing tonnes of tenacity and aggression but Cam was clearly dominant, delivering many beautiful strikes and consistently controlling the clinch which earned him the unanimous decision. The event was put on by former Academy of Combat fighter Matt Te Paa.

The Academy will be holding an open day on Saturday the 10th of October from 12 till 4pm. All of the martial arts available at the Academy will be on show and introductory lessons will be run throughout the day.
EVERYONE WHO ATTENDS WILL RECEIVE A FREE MARTIAL ARTS TECHNIQUES DVD*
The DVD features the demonstration of some excellent techniques from Thai boxing, Brazilian jiu jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts and Weaponry Combat and will help you decide which systems you will want to train in. This is an excellent opportunity to find out about what we do, so if you are at all interested in beginning or continuing martial arts training, come down and check us out.

On Sunday, September 20th the Academy was once again fortunate enough to have the legendary Rigan Machado conduct a 3 hour Brazilian jiu jitsu seminar. As usual the material being taught was simply awesome and all who attended now have some extremely effective new weapons in their grappling arsenal. Rigan is one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu exponents in the world and is a fantastic teacher, so these seminars are not to be missed!

Congratulations to Hayden Wilson who over the weekend won a silver medal in the heavyweight blue belt division at the Will-Machado 2009 Asia Pacific BJJ Championships. Check out our Gallery page for videos of his matches and other videos from the tournament which will be coming soon.
UPDATE!
Hayden was awarded his Brazilian jiu jitsu purple belt by Geoff on the Tuesday following the tournament which is a very significant achievement representing many years of work. So another big congratulations to Hayden! Also, videos of Geoff refereeing at the tournament and some black belt matches have been added to the Gallery. |

On the 5th of September 2009 members of the Academy will be appearing at the Christchurch Boy's Day Out event which is being held at 451 Halswell Junction Road, Hornby. This is the same location as the Maize Maze and Urban Paintball. There will be demonstrations of all the martial arts practiced at the Academy as well as a Slam Man Reality-Self Defence demonstration. The event will also feature cars, bikes, military vehicles, paintball, extreme sports and lots of other awesome boys stuff that should make for a great day out. If you are an Academy member who would like to help out on the day, please get in touch with Geoff or Leonie.

The Academy demos have been changed to the following times:
11:00-11:15 am - Weaponry demo 1:15-1:30 pm - Thai boxing demo 2:30-2:45 pm - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts Demo
